The world was different four months ago,
Festive lights dotted the December snow
Everything was fine on the New Year’s night
The clouds were clear, and the stars shined bright
Little did we know of the days ahead
Lurking danger and the growing dread
Cough and Fever went unexplained
A microorganism was beginning its reign.
The doctor who cautioned was silenced quick
People meanwhile were falling sick.
Ignorant others traveled around,
Taking the virus on a merry-go-round
The outbreak caught China’s pulse,
Within weeks it extended to everywhere else
Fear and panic spread unallayed
The death toll rose by thousands a day.
Hospitals worked round the clock,
People hoarded their sustenance stock,
Jobs were lost, and economy swirled,
The viral apocalypse stilled the world.
Unprecedented times imposed locked down,
Bustling streets became ghost towns,
All was quiet but the spin of the earth,
End of an era and dawn for rebirth.
The smoke cleared off our polluted sky,
Rested minds began to reason why.
Solitude sorts priorities in place,
The silver lining that mends our ways.
There is time to think and time to spend
Time we never had for family or friends
As we grieve our losses and battle our strife
Let’s learn some lessons on the meaning of life.
